Signup sheet from Tea for 1st semester students

Hi,
Who has the signup sheet for the 1st semester nursing students from our Tea? I need to get them added to their blog, but it is missing in action. Send me a note if you have it, and maybe you can just drop it off at the nursing office next time you are on campus. Thanks! Christine

good times

Check out this countdown! However, don't stare at it too long, it may hurt your eyes. Just a warning precaution. I don't know, it's just my fascination with staring at bright, colored objects.

Starting the program, I remember thinking to myself how it felt like it was going to take forever and a day for graduation to ever come... Shortly after, I started to think whether or not I would even make it to graduation at all! There's so much to keep up with and it can become overwhelming at times, but here we are! ONE whole semester down! Woohoo! Boy, does time fly or what?

So with all that said, this countdown is a celebration of each day we conquer as nursing students reaching towards the end of our goal, but more importantly, getting through this challenging program together as a team.

Time truly does fly when you're having fun. I mean, c'mon, who doesn't find emptying bedpans and reading endless chapters for theory fun? Ok, don't answer that.

So take in each day as it comes 'cause sooner than later we're going to be walking across that stage. So study hard, enjoy the relationships that you create along the way, and get excited! We are future nurses!

Here's to a new semester!

Study Group for N4

A group of us in N4 are going to be meeting after lecture on Tuesday Jan 22, to review for our first exam. We will be meeting in the lounge next to the coffee place until about 1:30. Our plan is to review the study topics in the format Semillo gave us (flow chart/25 words or less!) and talk through any concepts from theory we are having difficulty with. Anyone interested is more than welcome to join us!

I'm looking for Amanda who loaned a Pharm book to Marvin. He lost your number and wanted me to give you his number so he can return your book.
Post here or email me for his number. Debbiemehrer@yahoo.com.

Make a difference. Become a Student Nursing Association Officer!

Give yourself a chance to grow as a leader and as a member of a prominent organization by running for a Position with the SJDC Student Nursing Association!
In order to run, you or somebody else needs to nominate you.

SNA Officer’s Position duties:

President: Oversees club activities, responsible for meeting agendas, representative of SNA at monthly faculty meetings, responsible for active club status with Student Activities, and delegation of other officers as needed.

Lisa Newbold, a second semester student will be taking on the position of Vice President. She will support the President in planning and implementing ideas and club events; become acting President in President’s absence.

Secretary: Makes and posts flyers, types and copies agendas for meetings, take notes at meetings and formats minutes to be distributed at the next meeting, emails copy of minutes to Dean of Health Sciences Division.mneville @deltacollege.edu

Treasurer: Keeps financial records, makes deposits and payment requests for club events, manages inventory and ordering, provides monthly treasurer reports at club meetings.

ICC Representative: Represents the SNA at the mandatory InterClub Council (ICC) meetings two Thursdays a month or as scheduled by Student Activities; reports updates from SNA to ICC, reports ICC meeting discussion to SNA. This can be done by rotation of SNA members (does not have to be SNA member) but MUST BE DONE or we cannot continue our Association.

Feel free to contact Danielle Mathias-Lamb for more information re: Position responsibilities.
Danielle (209) 834-2111

Everyone, please consider giving back to your school by creating a strong, resourceful organization.

REMEMBER, the First SNA meeting is January 28th at 1pm in Locke 314!

National Student Nurses Association

I wanted to let everyone know about the upcoming California Nursing Student Association (CNSA) and National Student Nursing Association (NSNA) events.

February 23rd, there is an event in Southern California to inform CNSA members of opportunities available to them as well as listen to speakers in regards to current issues, specialized nursing careers and furthuring your nursing education. Attending events for this organization is a great way to network.

The National Student Nurses Association is having their annual Convention in Grapevine, TX March 26-30. There are many great times to hear from different nursing professionals, attend seminars pertaining to the NCLEX and other topics that are of interest to nursing students. There are also many different scholarships to apply for as well. Visit www.NSNA.org for information on these events and scholarships. In order to apply for scholarships you need to be an NSNA member. You can see how to become a member by clicking on this link. Dues are $20 per year for new members, and in order to be recognized as a constituent of NSNA there needs to be at least 10 members. This gives you the right to have one representative from your school vote on legislation at the NSNA and CNSA convention. The deadline for constituency status at this year's Nationals is January 30th!

If you do not want to fly, there will be another CNSA meeting
June 20th at Stanford. If you are interested in working in that area, this event is a MUST!! There will be food and a tour of the hospital. Being involved with these events also allows you to meet people that are an integral part in nursing legislation that will affect all of us, like pay and scope of practice!

The Statewide California Nursing Student Association convention will be held in Universal City in Southern California on October 9th-12th. This is another chance to get scholarship opportunities. Many are not aware of the scholarship opportunities, so it is a great chance to apply and get some money!!!
You can visit the link CNSA Events for all of the dates.

We have all chosen to make Nursing our profession and part of becoming a nurse is becoming an advocate for the profession. Start early by getting involved in your school, your community and organizations. I will be attending these events, so if any of you have any questions or comments, you can post them or email me directly (teagal871@students.deltacollege.edu).
Joining NSNA will also give our school a chance to become an official NSNA chapter. "What does that mean to us?" you ask. Well, being a chapter allows those who attend to vote on issues that involve all of us. It also gives us benefits to get reduced rates on products and discounts at places like Barnes & Noble. You also have to chance to be included on NCLEX review sessions. Visit http://www.nsna.org/membership/pdf/MemberWeb.pdf to see all the benefits available to you from NSNA.
Give yourself an edge to other nursing students by not just getting good grades, but showing that you care about the profession and are involved socially and professionally.
