First Exam

With the first exam quickly approaching I am sure many of you are wondering how to approach studying for it, right? I know I am. I decided to use some definitions and examples, then try to interpret that information in a way that would be useful in a nursing setting. I had somewhat of a difficult time trying to pull myself out of my old way of studying and change my way of thinking. How did everyone else go about it?

Mynursinglab login problem

**RESOLVED!**
I was able to register to the site, but it is not recognizing the course code that I have. CRSWE1G-11863 or CRSWE16-11863 (not sure if it is a six or a "g" that was on the board). I've tried w/and w/o dashes and it's not working for me. Has anyone been able to sucessfully log in?
Thanks! -Christine

Pharmacology Calc CD

I just wanted to let those who are interested know that the CD that comes with the Pharm calculations book (Curran) is quite helpful if you need that extra brushing up like I did.

The CD is a bit slow moving, but the tutorial takes you through several helpful steps. I think it was well worth it. Hope you do too.

See you all on the 10th (in Pharm) and have a happy Labor Day.

Assessment video and lectures

Howdy!

I am trying to get Mrs. Semillo's assessment video onto youtube (or some other video hosting site) so that I can get it onto our blog in case people misplace their DVD. Keep checking the video links to the left for this. In the meantime, I have found one on Youtube that is pretty good.

Also, I was trying to get the lectures to magically transfer to my computer as well, so that I can post that as well. Again, I will let you know when/if I am successful with that.

And if any of you know how to do either of these things, let me know!!

Hi everyone, hope everything is going well. I have a favor to ask of the students who have already taken Pharmacology. I was in class today and I didn't realize I needed an additional book. I wanted to ask if anyone still had their Dimensional Analysis book and if I could possibly borrow it for the semester. Money is really tight, which many of you are experiencing, so I was wondering if I can borrow the book. If someone can do me this favor please email me at krizelc_07@yahoo.com I would really appreciate it.

Thank you all and see you tomorrow,
Marian

Welcome Tea Chair

Hello first semester students:

It is a tradition in Delta's ADN program that the first semester students put on the Welcome Tea Reception for the incoming nursing students and I am looking for a volunteer or volunteers to take on that roll. I know that you all all packed to the gills with stuff to do, but it is now that time to pass the Welcome Tea Reception torch.

I have all the information in a binder to pass on that outlines and explains what to do, as well as some supplies from the last two semesters. I, of course, will be availible to assist you if needed with your prep for the tea. Since you only have the four weeks between fall and spring semester, it is VERY IMPORTANT to get started right away. If you do a little each week/month, it will not take up much of your time.

Remember, the Welcome Tea is put on by your class for the incoming students for the spring semester and pulling together as a team is key!!! The sooner someone gets started the better. Please email me at mmaness638@students.deltacollege.edu or post to the blog if you are interested in being the Welcome Tea Committee Chair.

Thanks!

Congrats New ADN Students

Hi All,

Congrats on making it into the program you should all be very proud, it was a lot of hard work and determination that got you here!! It may seem overwhelming looking down the road ahead right now, but just hold on and it all comes together. It really does go very quickly.

All of you PDA worriers, JUST HOLD ON, you do not have to have one at all, there are plenty of students that do very well without them just using the books, as well as many of us that love them and could not do it any other way........you do not even have a use for one until you get to your clinical sites............SNA (student nurse association) is going to have a PDA party at the first meeting with a lot of info and PDA's there for you to view different books and programs as well, we all have different likes and dislikes with all of this technology. I personally purchased the constellation and wish I had not, I rarely if ever use it. There are other, better books I like more. Others love the constellation so it just depends........I also know 2 students that had the phone/PDA thing all in one device, this did not work well for either of them and they had to purchase a separate PDA, there were compatability problems with loading the books, as well as software running system problems, not to mention more difficult to use and not being able to turn off the phone portion while needing power to run the computer portion for some........so just check everything out before you purchase anything. Our SNA president will be securing a date and place for this PDA party in the very near future, we should all watch our blogs for an announcement early next week.

My biggest tip to all of you is control your stress, don't let it control you. When the stress is getting the best of us we make simple, stupid, preventable mistakes that usually cost us in some way, and hopefully no one else. So take a deep breath, relax when you can, remember not to forget to have fun now and then and laugh at yourself and yes, your classmates too..............

Good Luck to You All,
Kelly Widger

Student Nursing Association

For those of you who are in the Student Nursing Association I wanted to let you know that the California Student Nursing Association (CSNA) is holding a State Conference October 11-14, 2007 in San Jose. If you are a member, the cost is $50 if you reserve a spot before September 7th, but after it will be $60. THere are also non-member admissions available, too. I believe they are around $75.

This conference is a great way to get to know students from other programs, find out what works for them and what they are doing. There are also going to be speakers and an NCLEX review (if anyone wants a jumpstart!). The NCLEX is an additional $30.

For more information, call (916)-552-7549 or visit www.cnsa.org.

I reserved a room at the Double Tree the night of the 12th and the night of the 13th.

CNSA has set aside a handful of rooms at $99/night if you reserve in time. I think, otherwise, they are $149 or $125 or something like that.

What programs to put on the PDA

Hello there!

It's me again! I know a lot of us are wondering what exactly we should be putting on our PDA's, and I found on a previous blog a number of people agreeing with the comment to purchase:

Constellation

Diseases and Disorders - A Nursing Therapeutics Manual 2/e (RNDiseases)

Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary, 20th edition (Tabers20)

Nurse's Pocket Guide Diagnosis, Interventions and Rationales, Ninth Edition (RNDxInt9)

This is also what Bonnie had suggested in today's Study Skills class.

study groups

Hello Everyone!!

In order to turn myself, an independent studier, into a functioning group studier, I have already arranged for daycare on Sundays for group study. Who would be interested in getting together once a week to go over the chapters, lectures, etc?

I live in North Stockton, so I can meet in Stockton or Lodi. I am also very willing to have my house be the meeting point (It will be empty, aka quiet).

You can email me at teagal871@deltacollege.edu OR call me at 608-1620, although I have to admit, my cell phone gets HORRIBLE service at my house.

Thanks!!

Blog Administrators Needed

Hi all:

I just wanted to remind your class that we need a few people to volunteer to be blog admins for your group. I have one volunteer so far and would like to get one or two more. Please respond to this post if you would be interested in being an admin for your blog.

Thanks a million
Melissa

Dress Code?

Hi all, I had a quick question for whoever can answer this... I unknowingly missed orientation and overheard something about a dress code of no jeans, open-toed shoes and covering of tatoos. What does this pertain to? Lecture? Skills lab? If someone could fill me in, that would be great. Thanks and hope to meet everyone soon.

Welcome to the 2009 Graduating Class

I hope you all had a wonderful time at your welcoming tea!

Remember that the other semester students love to share their experience and feel free to click on the links to the other blogs to introduce yourselves and ask questions.

There's a veritable smorgasborg of information available on the blogs of earlier classes and you'll find the test bank especially helpful. The photos can be pretty humorous as well!!!

Study together, laugh together, pass the darn NCLEX together!
