Welcome to our blog - come in, look around and stay a while. This is a place where we can offer each other support, ask/answer questions and share ideas. We are all in this together, working towards a common goal, so remember that you are never alone no matter how tough it gets. Now that we have graduated, our blog will graduate, too, to support us in our early careers as RNs. So check back in from time to time... Ya hear?

Hi, Trina. These are the last 3 questions we discussed:
#8 - Therapeutic Communication:
a) Open-ended: Use "How, When, Where, What" --> probing questions.
b) Verbal/Nonverbal: Open your sentence with "I see that..." (don't say "I understand")
c) Angry: "Tell me more" or "Help me understand" (don't say "I understand"). Process of reflection.
d) Anxious: Explanations, probing questions to make pt describe what's making him/her anxious. Focusing.
e) Sullen/Withdrawn People: Assess sensory input, use leading questions --> "Can you tell me how you're feeling?" Involve pt in the process, encourage.
#18 - Restraints
a) Legally: Physician's order every 24 hours --> check restraint every 15 min to 2 hrs, check circulation, movement, sensation.
b) Select the appropriate restraint; pad the bony prominences; check circulation, movement, sensation.
#7 - Critical Thinking
a) Decision-making: look @ other choices/options; alternatives, selecting the best which will use the least harm.
b) Creativity: for unusual cases; finding incentives; improvise.
c) Self-assessment: Reflection
RULE OF THUMB: Do not implement or intervene unless you have assessed - Assess first!!!!!
Hope these help...Good luck -
